Since its inception, a significant funding area for Follow the Buffalo, Inc. has been providing emergency relief to individuals on the Pine Ridge Reservation. We have defined emergencies as unforeseen events or circumstances, which directly affect a person’s health and wellbeing, and which have an associated expense or expenses that exceeds any monetary reserves of the individual(s). This can include vehicle repairs, medical expenses, home repairs, civic or infrastructure repairs, and other unexpected events. In the future, we hope to decrease the need for emergency funding by stimulating sustainable business ventures, which would increase individual and communal financial stability and monetary reserves both on the Pine Ridge Reservation and within the local community.
